A source close to Capcom, let’s call him Gob, has told Geimaku that the next Resident Evil is already in the works and that it’ll be next-gen.

Gob told us that it’ll be a spin-off. We’re thinking a sequel to Resident Evil Operation Raccoon City; you know that terrible Slant Six-developed game from 2012. He didn’t tell us who’s developing it, however. Let’s just hope it isn’t Slant Six, which it probably is, since RE ORC was a huge success with more than 2 million units sold.

The game will be available for PlayStation 4, the next Xbox, and PC, Gob told. And before he went away, he told us to expect an official announcement later this year. Maybe E3 or TGS.

With the PC version of Resident Evil 6 launching today, Capcom has released the first video featuring Left 4 Dead 2′s Coach, Nick, Ellis and Rochelle. These characters are playable in the PC exclusive Mercenaries No Mercy mode, “with The Witch and Mini Tank appearing as additional enemies or players to take down, regardless of whether a character from Left 4 Dead 2 or Resident Evil 6 is chosen.”

The DLC is free and will be automatically downloaded to the PC version of Resident Evil 6 starting April 5. Gameplay and screenshots of the game’s Onslaught mode below.

Thank you Capcom for breaking that barrier by letting me say that Left 4 Dead 2 and Resident Evil 6 are crossing over in a way I never thought.

This seems like not just a good idea to maxmize game time, but a good way to maximize scares and tension.
